Indian weddings are known for their grandeur and fun, but by habit, are exquisitely and incredibly ritualistic. From the Havans and Pheras, to the Varmala and the weepie Bidai, the rituals just never end! And there’s no room left (at all) to unwind on probably one of the happiest day of our lives!
But the Bidai doesn’t have to signal the end of the celebration, right? The fun can go on! And the best way to keep the night going is to throw a wedding after-party. After all, the most memorable memories happen when everyone’s relaxed and really letting loose. So whether you're planning an outdoor wedding or a destination wedding, here are a few things you can try to take the late-night fun to the next level.
A LITTLE TREAT FOR YOUR DANCING FEET
Kick off your heels and get ready to party! Place a box of flip flops and slippers for your girls near the dancing stage to help them get into comfortable footwear before they hit the floor.
SPICE UP THE DÉCOR
Your after-party is a new event, so you’ll need new wedding decoration ideas to mark the occasion. How about using the idea of your honeymoon destination as an inspiration? Like an open bar with colorful cocktails and lei if you’re headed to Mauritius or a lounge feel with divans draped in fur blankets if you’re off to the mountains.
CREATE YOUR OWN JUKEBOX
There are instances where guests didn’t enjoy the songs the DJ played at the wedding. And after requesting him to change the track multiple times, there is little hope that he will play your favorite tune. So to avoid this, set up a DJ request box. Request a song and let him play your favorite tune for the night.
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE
Make your guests pen down their thoughts or advices on coasters or little pieces of paper and then put them in a glass bottle which needs be opened at your one-year anniversary. Your relatives will definitely love this idea, as they love giving free advices.
If you’ve got some crooners in your group, hit up your local karaoke bar and get ready to sing your hearts out to your favorite tunes. If you’ve got a big group, you can split into teams to create a little friendly competition to see which friend of yours can join the “Indian Idol” bandwagon!
Having a beach destination wedding? Consider an after-party bonfire! Bring out the roasting spits and offer guests some lip-smacking tandoori kebabs. See if there’s a steel drummer or a flair bartender who can put on a show to help rev up the crowd.
KEEP THAT DISCO BALL TWIRLING
No one said the dancing has to end when the reception does. You’re already dressed up and have your dancing shoes on, so head out to enjoy the local nightlife to keep the party going through the wee hours of the night.
PHOTO BOOTHS ARE PASSÉ
Instead of a photo booth, set up a station where your guests can record short, personal video dedications to you and your partner. You can have the highlights edited later. Everyone will thoroughly enjoy this after-party idea, as the messages in the video will get better or bitter ;) as the night goes on (and your friends get drunker).
This is one of the most important aspect of any party. From tacos to fries, to popcorn and ice-creams, set-up a food bar for your guests for your wedding after-party. Make sure your guests eat before they head home before/after sunrise.
